With the opera “Joe” the designers De Pas, D’Urbino and Lomazzi, in 1970 wanted to express their admiration for one of the great myths of the American collective imagination, the baseball champion Joe DiMaggio.
On the model we worked a lot: he was put on a pedestal, the same ones that are used to make sculptures. To prove it we put above sacks of jute because the clay was wet, then we sat down until we found the right forms. (Paolo Lomazzi, Milan 2012)
